The Scene Show Hawaii

2007

Okay, so here in Hawaii, we don’t get that many rock shows, let alone many good, out-of-state underground artists.

“The Scene Show” is the “biggest underground rock event of the year!!!!!” After the concert finished, it was not just a self-proclamation, but it was, without a grain a doubt, a stone cold fact, infact, in my opinion, it was one of the best shows within the last several years, and I attend quite a few of them. The Scene Show may not be the biggest event by the number of tickets sold, but it will be the biggest because this show will take a long time for people to stop talking about. This was definitely one of the best shows that I have ever been to, and people are actually jealous because they were not able to go to the show. My friend, Ashleigh said “I don’t really like Halifax, [BOO TO YOU ASH!] but I heard that the show was really fun, I wish I went.” My only other comment aside from that boo to her is: you should have gone, the guys who set it up were really awesome, and the show rocked everyone’s socks off.

Several people that I spoke to after the show agreed with me that it was probably one of the best shows that they had ever been to due to the entertainment aspect of it. The entertaining aspects ranged from the members of Halifax getting their butts slapped by various fans that ran up on stage, to the people running on stage to sing along to Haste The Day’s music, one fan even stripped on stage during Halifax’s set. In one word, this concert was crazy.

Fans  onstage during Halifax’s set…yes, the dude who stripped is in this shot.

The artists that performed at the Scene Show were Halifax, Haste the Day, Comeback Kid, Bradley Hathaway, and Olivia the Band. For several of the “out of towners” (Out of Towners as defined by the LEX37 dictionaree [ßdictionary for those of you without a sense of humor] N: People, or performers that come from a place other than the state of Hawaii. In most cases, “off islanders” that still live in the state of Hawaii are not considered “out of towners”), this was their first Hawaii show (poor them, they had to live without us for sooooo long…it’s not our fault that the Hawaii crowd rocks).

For my friend Kari, the best part of the show was when Halifax did a cover of Fergie’s song, “London Bridge.” Personally I had a differing opinion on which part of the show was the best, but I will admit that that is definitely one of the highlights of the Scene Show.

According to my friend San, she said that this was the best concert because “…the bands were so laxed, I mean fans were running up onstage, and they were not freaking out like there was some kind of security breach, they just let the fans up onstage and let them sing their hearts out to their favorite songs.” In actuality, San was right, most other concerts that come to Hawaii, the bands and the security teams freak out when fans hit the stage. I think it is a little silly, but I do see the importance of them freaking out at the same time.

I just wish that I could relive the concert over and over again because it was just so much fun that I did not want that night to end, but as with all good things, they unfortunately come to an end.

Before I officially end this article, I would like to send out big thanks to Josh, and Daniel of TMG808 (Http://www.myspace.com/TMG808), Ana Bustillos, the publicist of Halifax, and Mike from Halifax (for the reason of the thanks, please see the “LEXclusive interview” article, which is also in this issue of 24/37).
