LEXclusive Interview:

Mike from Halifax

Who ever said that all singers were rude obviously never met Mike, lead singer of Halifax.

Although we had trouble finding him at first, he greeted me with a smile, and was polite through out the entire interview. This was his first trip to the Aloha State, and he seemed perfectly calm even though there was a tsunami watch for Hawaii the day after they had arrived in the islands.

Mike with a LEX37 shirt inside Pipeline Café. Honolulu, Hawaii

Although the interview was a little awkward due to the fact that the interview was conducted outside, (give me a break, it was windy so my papers were flying, thank goodness he helped me gather my papers when they did fly) the interview went pretty dar n well.

The most uncomfortable part of the interview, in my opinion, was probably when a fan came up and asked Mike for a picture, but other than that, it was all cool, not that I minded the distraction.

Thanks to our staff, and you, our readers, we had some very interesting questions lined up for Mike.

For starters, let me just say that I am an idiot, heh, I had to ask him for his name twice…but we all know his name now (it’s

Mike for those of you that missed it the last five times that I had mentioned it). When he first introduced himself to me, I totally missed his name because I was meeting so many cool new people, and it was all at once, that I got confused. One more side note to this, when I was trying to figure out the band member’s names from online profiles, in the picture that I saw of him, he had long hair, I am going to guess that that was either an old picture of him, or someone time traveled and took a picture of him, then time traveled again and posted that picture online.

                            Hello!

                Hey, What’s your name again?

                        OMG! She forgot my name!

When I asked him my own question, what is your favorite tech toy, he was unfortunately confused, so I told him “you know, like an MP3, or computer, or laptop” He replied with “oh, my computer, my laptop.” His computer is his most favorite tech toy because he plays World of Warcraft (W.o.W.) and apparently, he used to play the online game starcraft as well. Psst! While we are on the topic of computers, and the internet, go check out yousuckirule.com, it is Mike’s favorite site at the moment because it’s his friends site.

Our staff member, Linzi asked him the silliest question in the world, the question was “are you too sexy for your shirt, too sexy for your shirt, too sexy for your shirt? If so, can I have it?” That was such a weird question for me to ask, but I am sure that it was awkward for him to answer as well, but he answered it gracefully “No, not by any means am I sexy, but if you want it you can have it.” If Linzi was there, she probably would have taken it, but I am not her (Too bad for you Linzi)  So I told him that she doesn’t need any more shirts. For you Mike fans out there, imagine if he had a company,  do you want to know what he would name it? Well, guess no longer, he would name a company “Umbrella” after Resident Evil because he had always thought that it was a cool name…I would never have guessed that.

Well, I learned many new things about Mike, such as His favorite place to be on holiday (ß vacation),that place is home, mainly because you don’t get to go home much when you tour as much as Halifax does, but don’t get me wrong, he still loves the fans, and some of the cool things that they do for the band, such as getting a Halifax tattoo, or totally psyching them out with a fan page. Even with the cool fans, and the tours, Mike doesn’t feel that they have really hit it big, “I don’t feel that we have hit it big” he stated “but I feel we were successful.”

I am sure that he would much rather be touring with Halifax, even if they drive through bad weather---which is one of the scariest things that can happen to them while they are on tour--- than doing the data entry, which was his least favorite job before touring, his favorite job was working at Applebees.

Although Mike is the lead singer for Halifax, if he could play any instrument, he would play the guitar again, when he was in high school, He didn’t like his economics class, and  he never did join any clubs because he was the “indie” kid that would be playing the guitar during lunch time. Aside from his guitar sessions during lunch time, he volunteered helping mentally challenged people all through his high school years. Mike did take a little bit of Spanish in school, but if he could speak any language, he would speak Italian.

As far as shopping goes, he has been to a Hot Topic store, but he has no comment as far as what he thinks of it… as long as he doesn’t hate on store #205, it’s all good (if you didn’t get the memo by now, I work at that Hot Topic, yes, I am a loser if you must know). He doesn’t shop on ebay.com, but if you ever found yourself wondering what was the most that he had ever spent on something, it would be $1,400 on…would you believe it, his cell phone bill. The bill was so inflated because he didn’t have roaming on his phone, but rest easy everyone, he has roaming now.  When asked “DIY or buy” he says “buy, pay someone else to do it.”

A lot of people now days dye their hair weird colors, but as far as Mike’s locks go, the only thing that he has done to it as far as color was bleach it, lets take some time to imagine him blonde…hmm, interesting.

There are a few facts that were in the questionnaire, but they are not in the actual article part of it because I could not figure out how to incorporate it into the article, so if your question is not in the Q&A at the bottom of the page, it didn’t get included in the interview, I am sorry, we got over 500 questions, and it took two of the editors over a week and a half to pick the top 20 fan questions, and the top 10 staff questions (one fan question unfortunately got lost around the time of the interview).

Before we go on to the transcript of the interview, I would like to extend a big thanks out to a few people. First I would like to thank Mike for his time and patience, I would also like to thank Josh and Daniel (http://www.myspace.com/TMG808), the coordinators of the Scene Show, for all of their help, and finally, I want to send a HUGE thank you to Ana Bustilloz, without her, none of this would have been possible.
